HAVE A NICE NIGHT a film by Jeannot Szwarc
The setting is the hotel Martines at Cannes during the Midem. An inexplic-able suicide takes place! Detective Tom Lepski is busy inspecting the suite re-served for film star Jeanne Marigny , when a man caught taking pictures of the location jumps to his death from the eighth floor, throwing the Palace's other guests into a panic. The investigation, supervised by Police Inspector Ottavio-ni, moves through its initial phases. The suicide victim was not carrying any identification. The police have no record of him. The mystery is complete and the sense of dread spreads. Jeanne Marigny is being protected by Tom Lepski. She always has on an em-erald that is insured for 10 million dollars! Perhaps the unidentified man was inspecting the suite in order to steal the jew-el! The fact that he preferred killing himself to undergoing questioning means that he must have been keeping some terrible secret which could not be be-trayed. Who sent him? Will the people behind him strike again? Where? When? How? A strange old man roams the halls of the "Palace", riding in a wheelchair that is pushed by a nurse who seems too sexy to be a real nurse. The old man turns out to be Bradey, King of the robbers. He is a master thief and an expert in disguises. At this point, the mystery appears to be solved: Bradey has come to relieve the film star of her emerald. Not so! The truth is that Brady has his heart set on the jewels of another guest at the hotel: a millionaire lady from Texas. Eventually, Jeanne Marigny is the victim of an attack that proves as unexpect-ed as it is dramatic. She is kidnapped by a gang of terrorists who have plant-ed an informant in her entourage. They are not interested in her emerald. What they wish to do is present their cause to the entire world through their act, and the kidnapping of an internationally known film star fits this goal per-fectly .But Lepski is on the scene. Acting in truly heroic fashion, he risks his own life to rescue Jeanne Marigny. In the end, he succeeds in foiling the plans of the terrorists. But what about Bradey? His plans have also been upset. The Hotel Martines is surrounded by a massive police presence, and pulling of a jewellery robbery is no easy matter. He was hoping to kill two birds with one stone...
