VIOL@ a film by Donatella Majorca
Although young and beautiful, Viola is a lonely woman. She lives alone with her dog and leads a very poor social life. Her latest love-affair has been a failure, but she is still a dreamer with a bursting inner life. And she often works on her computer. One night she yields to her own curiosity and joins a hot chat line on the Internet. Obscene words and vulgar messages, but one voice is different from the others, it is appealing, and Viola starts chatting with him. Since then, she has her everyday virtual date with mysterious Mittler. Hidden behind the shield of anonymity, behind the lifeless screen, she feels confident in herself and looses all her inhibitions. Her virtual relationship gets more and more intimate: through a post office box they start exchanging personal objects, and Mittler starts giving Viola tasks to perform everyday, in the loneliness of her house. The game becomes dangerous as it takes Viola away from real life: she neglects her work and completely forgets her social life. The death of her beloved dog brings her back to reality. Lorenzo, a young neighbour, helps her to bury the poor beast, and takes care of her during the sad moment. They get friends and Viola realises that time has come for her to get back to life, and maybe to start loving a man again. But her virtual secret world is still alive. Mittler does not forget her: he is jealous and terribly persistent. He has now got her phone number and calls her everyday. He has got her address and sends her packets. The mysterious man is a black shadow hovering over her new relationship with Lorenzo. She resolves to ask Mittler a real meeting but he refuses and keeps on tormenting her. Thanks to a clever trick, she succeeds in getting his home address. She gets there, she climbs the stairs with a bursting heart and knocks on the door: what she finds is a small lonely boy typing on his computer board, with his mother cooking just next door.
